JEKYLL ISLAND, GA

Today, at the Georgia Republican Party state convention, State Senator Bruce Thompson (R-White) officially launched his campaign for Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor. Senator Thompson will use his decades of business experience, entrepreneurship, and servant leadership to help get our state back to work, fix the mismanagement at the department, and deliver benefits more quickly to hardworking Georgians. Thompson launched the following campaign video on the heels of his announcement:
“I’m proud to announce my candidacy for Labor Commissioner of the great state of Georgia,” said Bruce Thompson. “As a successful business owner, entrepreneur, and problem-solver, I have the experience, passion, and commitment to helping our state get back to work and get Georgians back on their feet following the pandemic. Unfortunately, the Department of Labor has been completely mismanaged and has failed the citizens of Georgia. It’s time for fresh ideas, new leadership, and a solution-oriented approach cut through the bureaucratic red tape, empower small businesses in our state and get hardworking Georgians the benefits they deserve, and I’m excited to get to work.”

Whether on a jobsite or just volunteering, he is not afraid of work especially if it involves helping others. His “get it done” spirit, rooted in his childhood from Montana growing up on a farm, life was anything but easy. After attending college on a wrestling scholarship, Bruce went on to service four years in the United States Military as a Tank Commander.

Since his time serving in the military, Bruce has been referred to as a serial entrepreneur because of the variety of businesses he has successfully launched or turned around.

He initiated his first venture when he was 10 years old by selling fresh milk from the farm to local school bus drivers. When he turned 22, he launched The Thompson Group in South Florida to provide tenant improvements to 11 shopping centers.

Since then, Bruce has successfully started 2 automatic swimming pool cover businesses that grew to become the largest in the Southeast prior to being acquired in 2018. In 2007, he formed The Thompson Insurance Group from scratch, and over the next 9 years grew it to 6 offices and over 10 million in premiums.

Bruce lives in Cartersville, Georgia with his wife Rebecca (Becky), daughter Faith and son Maxwell. Although credited with many business and political accolades over the years, Bruce’s biggest accomplishments are raising his two children alongside his wife of 24 years, Becky.
